TGS announced the award of a major 4D seismic acquisition contract in Angolan offshore waters, an operation that will strengthen the company’s presence in the African energy market and guarantee operational activity for one of its vessels until 2027.

The program will begin in early July 2026 and will last approximately eight months. The company will deploy its Ramform platform along with GeoStreamer technology to carry out high-resolution marine seismic acquisition work aimed at monitoring offshore reservoirs.

Angola remains attractive for offshore exploration

The new contract confirms Angola’s continued dynamism within the offshore exploration and production sector in Africa. In recent years, the country has strengthened its activity in deepwater oil and gas projects, driving demand for advanced geophysical technologies.

4D seismics allows for the comparison of data acquired at different times to evaluate changes in hydrocarbon reservoirs. This technology has become a key tool for optimizing production strategies and improving the management of mature offshore fields.

TGS strengthens its strategy in Africa

Kristian Johansen, CEO of TGS, noted that the award strengthens the company’s image in the African region and provides operational visibility for one of its vessels well into the first quarter of 2027.

Likewise, the executive highlighted that the company will continue to focus on offering advanced data and energy intelligence solutions tailored to the changing needs of the sector.

The company believes that the combination of Ramform vessels and GeoStreamer multisensor technology allows for more accurate seismic imaging and improves data quality for offshore operators.

Seismic technology to optimize energy decisions

TGS specializes in data and intelligence services for energy companies on a global scale; its portfolio includes marine seismic acquisition, geophysical processing, and interpretation solutions geared towards exploration and production.

The use of advanced seismic technologies continues to gain relevance in offshore projects due to the need to maximize operational efficiency and reduce uncertainty in the development of energy resources.
