The contract covers 94.6 kilometers of subsea umbilical for the Kutei North Hub development in the deep waters of East Kalimantan. SLB OneSubsea was awarded a contract by Eni North Ganal Limited to design, procure, and manufacture a steel pipe umbilical system for the Kutei North Hub project off the coast of Indonesia.
The contract includes 94.6 kilometers of umbilical cable for operating at depths of up to 2,200 meters. The assembly will weigh approximately 6,700 tons and will be designed to withstand a pressure of 10,000 psi.
The project is located off the coast of East Kalimantan and is part of a deepwater development promoted by Eni North Ganal. This company is a subsidiary of Searah Limited, a joint venture between Eni and Petronas.
An umbilical system for deep-water conditions
Subsea umbilicals allow the transport of energy, control signals, and fluids between surface installations and equipment located on the seabed. For this reason, their design must meet high demands in terms of pressure, depth, and mechanical strength.
In this case, SLB OneSubsea will handle the engineering, procurement, and manufacturing of the system; the size of the order places it among the largest umbilical contracts announced by the industry in recent years.
The project also includes a continuous 30-kilometer section weighing approximately 2,100 tons. Its manufacture and storage will require high-capacity carousels to handle the product without disrupting its structural integrity.
Parallel production with Oscilay technology
To execute the contract, SLB OneSubsea will combine its Oscilay and planetary production lines. This configuration will allow for parallel manufacturing activities and reduce delivery times compared to conventional single-line methods.
The simultaneous use of both technologies also aims to increase industrial efficiency during the manufacturing of a long and heavy system. This is particularly relevant in offshore projects where the scheduling of subsea equipment must be coordinated with installation campaigns, specialized vessels, and other development phases.
Mads Hjelmeland, CEO of SLB OneSubsea, noted that the company seeks to integrate technical expertise and manufacturing capabilities to accelerate execution while maintaining the reliability required by deepwater projects.
SLB OneSubsea’s role in the Eni project
SLB OneSubsea is a joint venture backed by SLB, Aker Solutions and Subsea7, the company develops subsea solutions for oil and gas operations and has activity centers in Oslo and Houston.
SLB, for its part, operates as a global energy technology provider with a presence in more than 100 countries. Its portfolio encompasses solutions for oil and gas, digital services, industrial decarbonization, and new energy systems.
The contract for Kutei North Hub strengthens OneSubsea’s involvement in deep-sea, high-pressure subsea projects. It also expands its operations in Southeast Asia, a region where offshore developments demand equipment capable of operating under increasingly demanding technical conditions.

The umbilical system will be a central piece within the project’s underwater infrastructure; its function will be to support the control and operation of the equipment installed on the seabed during the field’s development.
Although the companies did not disclose the economic value of the contract, they did detail its physical and technical scale; the 94.6 kilometers in length, the pressure of 10,000 psi and the total weight of 6,700 tons show the complexity of the manufacturing planned for Eni’s project in Indonesia.
