ScottishPower Renewables awarded operation and maintenance contracts worth £102.9 million to serve 24 onshore wind farms in the United Kingdom.
The agreements, granted to Gael Energy, Everun, RES y Natural Power these contracts will have a duration of five years. The procurement aims to strengthen asset availability, expand local technical capacity, and support the supply chain linked to the wind energy.
Four companies will handle the wind energy portfolio.
First, three of the selected companies will expand their existing business relationships with ScottishPower Renewables Gael Energy joins as a new supplier and will run its operations from Invergordon, in the Scottish Highlands.
Ross Galbraith, director of onshore construction and operations at ScottishPower Renewables, noted that continued investment in assets provides greater certainty for supplier companies. According to Galbraith, this stability allows them to promote their own investments, create jobs, and bring benefits to nearby communities.
Galbraith also highlighted the experience of the four companies in the wind energy sector and ScottishPower Renewables’ intention to strengthen these relationships in the coming years.
Gael Energy expands its presence in the Highlands
For its part, Gael Energy will strengthen its portfolio of operating contracts and wind farm maintenance the company will provide services from its base in Invergordon and plans to expand its growth opportunities in northern Scotland.
Hamish Campbell, founder and CEO of Gael Energy, stated that the agreement strengthens the company’s ability to provide reliable services in the region. He also emphasized that the contract will create opportunities for his team and support the long-term development of the Scottish renewable energy sector.
The addition of Gael Energy expands ScottishPower Renewables’ supplier network and adds operational capacity in a strategic area for the onshore wind power generation.
Everun will service 97 turbines in Scotland
In addition, Everun will add three new sites to its existing agreements with ScottishPower Renewables, the project encompasses 97 turbines and employs 15 people across Scotland.
The Belfast-based company will continue to implement a model based on continuous improvement, staff training, and investment in infrastructure.
Michael Thompson, CEO of Everun, explained that the partnership with ScottishPower Renewables has been developing for several years. The new contract will allow the company to expand its operations and continue providing technical services throughout the next contract period.
RES will operate from its logistics center in Bellshill
Meanwhile, RES will use its logistics center in Bellshill, Lanarkshire, as a base to provide support to 15 ScottishPower Renewables wind farms.
From this facility, the company will offer logistical support, component refurbishment, and specialized technical resources. This structure will allow for the coordination of maintenance work and address the needs of different facilities within its portfolio.
The location will also facilitate the movement of equipment and parts destined for the onshore wind farms included in the contract.
Natural Power incorporates four wind farms
Finally, Natural Power added four wind farms to its existing operation and maintenance agreement with ScottishPower Renewables.
To handle the new workload, the company expanded its teams in Dumfries and Lanark, Matthew Kelly, director of operations and asset management, said this investment will create opportunities for skilled engineers and strengthen the company’s operational capacity.
The contracts reflect the importance of expert maintenance in preserving wind turbine performance, reducing downtime, and extending asset lifespan. They also reinforce the participation of British suppliers in a wind energy portfolio spread across various regions of the country.
