Oceaneering signs five-year contract for oil assets in Qatar

The agreement will cover inspection, NDT and asset integrity for a Qatari oil company for five years.

Oceaneering will provide inspection, non-destructive testing and value engineering services for a Qatar-based oil company.

Oceaneering International has been awarded a five-year contract to provide asset inspection and integrity services to a Qatar-based oil company. The contract includes two optional one-year extensions and was awarded following a competitive bidding process.

According to the company, the agreement will be executed by its Integrity Management and Digital Solutions segment, known as IMDS. Although the financial value was not disclosed, Oceaneering expects the contract to generate significant revenue during its initial period.

The contract strengthens Oceaneering’s presence in Qatar

Furthermore, the contract award expands Oceaneering’s activity in a market where it has operated for over 20 years. During that time, the company has been involved in technical services related to critical energy infrastructure and operations in the oil and gas sector.

The new hire will allow the company to leverage the expertise of its local team to conduct inspections on an ongoing basis. This model aims to provide operational stability throughout the agreement and facilitate coordination with the client in Qatar.

Using locally based personnel can also reduce mobilization times and improve responsiveness to inspection needs. The company also noted that the contract’s execution will contribute to the development of local talent.

Non-destructive testing and value engineering

The scope includes non-destructive testing services, industrial inspection and value engineering; these activities allow the evaluation of the condition of equipment and structures without affecting their operation or altering their components.

Non-destructive testing is used to detect discontinuities, thickness loss, cracks, or other conditions that could compromise the integrity of assets. The information obtained helps plan maintenance and prioritize interventions according to the level of risk.

In turn, value engineering allows for the review of processes, costs, and technical performance to improve the reliability of facilities. In energy operations, this approach can help limit unplanned downtime and extend the lifespan of equipment.

Inform will support digital inspection

In addition, Oceaneering will use Inform, its digital inspection software; the platform allows for organizing technical data, recording results, and tracking the status of assets during different inspection cycles.

Digitizing information facilitates the traceability of findings and allows for the comparison of historical data; it also helps to identify trends that can anticipate failures or justify new evaluations.

The contract could include the implementation of Vision, Oceaneering’s data visualization platform, this tool presents operational and integrity information through graphical environments that support decision-making.

Reliability and regulatory compliance

Leo Granato, senior vice president of IMDS, indicated that the award confirms the company’s ability to deliver integrity solutions supported by digital tools.

The executive stated that these services aim to improve production reliability and asset uptime, he also noted that the work will support compliance with regulatory requirements.

With this contract, Oceaneering strengthens its portfolio of long-term services in the Middle East; the combination of inspection, non-destructive testing, and digital data management will be the technical core of the new operation in Qatar.
