The Italian company NextGeo announced the deployment of several specialized vessels to conduct a geophysical and underwater security campaign in the Central Mediterranean. The project is linked to the installation of subsea energy infrastructure and includes geophysical inspection activities and the detection of unexploded ordnance (UXO).
According to information published by Offshore Energy, the contract is worth close to 10 million euros and is part of the preliminary activities necessary to ensure safe conditions during the installation of underwater energy systems.
Offshore campaign focused on subsea security
The operation will include advanced geophysical surveys and seabed analysis to identify potential hazards in the work area. These types of campaigns are crucial for reducing operational risks before installing pipelines, submarine cables, and other offshore energy infrastructure.
Likewise, UXO activities allow the detection of explosive remains or hazardous elements present on the seabed that may compromise the safety of subsea operations.
NextGeo will use multiple offshore vessels to expedite the execution of scheduled tasks in various areas of the Central Mediterranean. The company has experience in geotechnical services, hydrographic surveys, and marine inspection campaigns related to the energy sector.
The Mediterranean gains relevance for energy projects
Over the past few years, the Central Mediterranean has become a strategic area for the development of subsea energy infrastructure. The growth of offshore projects related to energy transmission, interconnections, and power generation has driven demand for specialized geophysical inspection and analysis services.
In this context, pre-construction offshore surveys have become essential to ensure the technical and operational viability of new underwater installations.
In addition, companies in the sector continue to increase investments in subsea technology and maritime capabilities to respond to the increase in energy projects in Europe and North Africa.
NextGeo strengthens its presence in offshore services
The new contract strengthens NextGeo’s presence within the Mediterranean offshore market and expands its participation in projects related to underwater energy infrastructure.
The Italian company maintains a strategy focused on marine geophysical services, underwater inspection and technical support for complex offshore operations.
With this campaign, the company will seek to strengthen operational capabilities in one of the maritime corridors with the highest energy activity in the region.
