ABS and Seatrium Technology and Innovation Pte. Ltd signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) aimed at strengthening offshore maritime improvement through the development of sustainable technologies, regulatory processes and new energy solutions for the naval and offshore industry.
The alliance establishes a framework for technical collaboration and knowledge sharing between the two companies with the aim of accelerating the safe adoption of advanced maritime technologies. The agreement will also support Seatrium’s startup programs in areas related to decarbonization, automation, and new energy.
ABS and Seatrium target crucial new maritime technologies
The agreement between ABS and Seatrium’s technology subsidiary seeks to integrate engineering, technical assessment and marine classification capabilities to facilitate the deployment of next-generation offshore solutions.
Key areas of focus include applications for harsh environments, autonomous technologies, and advanced offshore infrastructure. Initiatives related to maritime decarbonization and emerging energy systems are also included.
Matthew Tremblay, ABS’s senior vice president for the global offshore sector, highlighted that the cooperation will allow for expanded joint work between both organizations in maritime invention and regulation.
According to Tremblay, the initiative represents a new step in the technological relationship between the companies and will contribute to improving the safe implementation of advanced offshore technologies.
Regulation and sustainability as pillars of the agreement
One of the memorandum’s central objectives is to facilitate regulatory readiness for new maritime and energy solutions. To this end, ABS will contribute its expertise in classification, technical verification, and regulatory compliance within the offshore sector.
Aziz Merchant, Executive Vice President of Technology and New Product Development at Seatrium, noted that the company maintains its strategy of developing marine and energy solutions prepared for future market demands.
The executive explained that the cooperation with ABS will support technological assessment and regulatory validation processes for applications related to new energies, maritime automation, and advanced offshore platforms.

The collaboration comes at a time when the offshore maritime industry is accelerating investments in sustainability, digitalization and emissions reduction.
