During the NISTM 2026 conference, Tim Nymberg, CEO of Mesa Industries, shared the company’s vision on the main challenges in the sector and the innovations that are shaping the future of industrial storage.

First, Nymberg explained that Mesa Industries’ strategy is based on two pillars: customer proximity and technological development. This combination allows them to identify real operational problems and design industry-specific solutions.

Highlights from NISTM 2026

The company’s CEO highlighted the liquid-mounted FlexCore seal , a patented system that improves emissions control by 30% to 40% compared to traditional mechanical seals. This technology is designed to reduce evaporative emissions in storage tanks , an increasingly regulated aspect of the energy industry.

The company has also developed a reinforced fabric that acts as a barrier, offering greater durability, chemical resistance, and ease of installation. This material also helps improve vapor containment and optimize the operational performance of the tanks.

Furthermore, the executive emphasized that one of the sector’s key objectives is to extend the lifespan of tanks, which currently can remain in service for 15 to 20 years. This requires more robust solutions that guarantee long-term reliability.

Furthermore, products must meet the needs of both owners and contractors responsible for installation, driving the design of simpler, more efficient, and more competitive solutions.

AI enters exploratory phase

Regarding digitalization, Nymberg noted that artificial intelligence is still in its early stages within the industry. However, Mesa Industries already uses it in internal processes, primarily through automated tools.

Currently, the company is developing projects that will integrate AI more broadly in the future, with the aim of improving processes and supporting decision-making in industrial environments.

However, one of the biggest challenges identified is resistance to change. Due to the high cost of decommissioning tanks, operators tend to maintain traditional solutions for long periods.

This situation limits the adoption of new technologies, even when they offer significant improvements in efficiency and sustainability. According to Nymberg, the challenge lies in fostering a long-term vision that allows for the incorporation of innovation without compromising operational efficiency.

Headquartered in Cincinnati and with operations in Houston, Mesa Industries continues to expand its international presence, supported by a network of distributors on six continents.
