The company Karoon Energy reactivated extraction operations at the Baúna project on May 13, 2026. Activities were completed according to the established timelines after temporarily halting operations for a 28-day period. Currently, the platform records an approximate extraction volume of 11,500 barrels of crude oil per day before experiencing the natural decline of the field.
Details of the Baúna Project Restart and Projections
The company anticipates an additional volume of between 9,000 and 10,000 barrels per day by mid-year. This operational increase is conditional on the successful replacement of the electric submersible pump in the SPS-92 well, an operation currently underway. Likewise, the forecast includes the recovery and subsequent reconnection of the PRA-2 umbilical during the beginning of the third quarter of 2026.
Regarding technical work, the planned shutdown was executed within the assigned budgetary parameters. Technical teams proceeded with the replacement of multiple pipe sections, including the main production manifold, along with the upgrade of critical systems and structural components. Additionally, the work plan included surface treatment through the painting of 20,000 square meters of infrastructure covering decks, structures, piping, and the flare stack.
Furthermore, detailed underwater inspections were carried out on the hull of the floating production, storage, and offloading unit (FPSO). These interventions are part of a comprehensive revitalization campaign supported by a hotel vessel operating since February 6, 2026. Through these activities, more than 100 tons of metal structures were renewed to ensure a sustained operational efficiency range of between 90% and 95%.
In relation to the safety of the campaign, the company’s management detailed the absence of lost-time incidents. Marco Brummehuis, Executive Vice President and Director of Karoon in Brazil, expressed his satisfaction with the technical execution of this process and highlighted the completion of more than 130,000 hours of work without recording any bodily injuries among employees and associated contractors.
Finally, Karoon Energy consolidates its presence in the international energy sector through the optimization of its strategic assets in Brazil, Australia, and the United States. The improvements applied seek to extend the asset’s useful life in a reliable, safe, and financially sustainable manner for investors.
