Wärtsilä Gas Solutions continues to strengthen its participation in the global liquefied natural gas supply market after securing a new contract to equip four LNG supply vessels to be built in China for GSX Energy.
The new vessels will be built at the Nantong CIMC Sinopacific Offshore & Engineering shipyard and will feature cargo handling and fuel gas supply systems developed by Wärtsilä. The Finnish technology company confirmed that the first two orders were placed during the first quarter of 2026, while the remaining two units were delivered in the second quarter of the year.
LNG continues its advance as a marine fuel
The growth of LNG as an alternative for maritime transport continues to promote demand for supply infrastructure and bunkering services in various international markets.
According to industry estimates, more than 1,150 dual-fuel LNG-powered vessels will be operating globally by 2028. This scenario has strengthened investments in specialized vessels capable of supplying LNG fuel safely and efficiently.
Furthermore, liquefied natural gas continues to be considered a transitional solution within maritime decarbonization goals due to its ability to reduce emissions compared to conventional fuels.
Wärtsilä will supply engineering and fuel gas systems.
The scope of the contract includes the engineering design along with the complete supply of LNG cargo handling systems and fuel gas supply systems for the four vessels.
Equipment deliveries for the first two vessels will begin in December 2026, Barry Yang, sales manager for China at Wärtsilä Gas Solutions, noted that LNG plays a significant role in the development of more sustainable shipping.
Yang also noted that Wärtsilä’s comprehensive cargo handling and fuel gas supply package represents a flexible and proven solution for operational efficiency.
Strategic relationship with the Chinese shipyard
Likewise, Wärtsilä Gas Solutions maintains a strong collaboration with Nantong CIMC Sinopacific Offshore & Engineering thanks to the previous supply of systems for LNG carriers, gas carriers and small-scale multi-gas vessels.
The company has strengthened its presence in the maritime LNG segment through solutions focused on storage, gas transfer, BOG management and fuel systems for naval and energy applications.
Wärtsilä indicated that it will continue to expand its technologies focused on operational efficiency and emissions reduction within the global maritime industry.
