TDI-Brooks to Begin Multibeam Survey and Sampling in Liberia

The vessel is equipped with a Kongsberg EM 304 MKIII multibeam system, designed to perform detailed seafloor mapping.
TDI-Brooks sobre seep hunting explica que estas campañas ayudan a reducir riesgo y costo de exploración offshore

TDI-Brooks, in collaboration with GeoPartners Ltd and the National Oil Company of Liberia (NOCAL), has secured a contract to conduct a multi-client multibeam echosounder (MBES) survey and seep sampling in Liberia’s offshore waters.

The project aims to generate a data-backed technical foundation to reduce exploratory risk across the continental shelf, slope, and basin floor.

The campaign will identify potential natural hydrocarbon indications on the seabed and provide key information for future exploration decisions.

The R/V GYRE Arrived in Monrovia

The research vessel R/V GYRE, operated by TDI-Brooks, has arrived in Monrovia to begin the seep detection campaign.

Survey activities are planned for the waters of southern Liberia and are expected to last approximately six weeks.

Upon completion of its operations in Liberia, the R/V GYRE will support CSA Ocean Sciences Inc. on the African Atlantic Gas Pipeline project, also known as the Nigeria-Morocco Gas Pipeline, on behalf of Morocco’s National Office of Hydrocarbons and Mines (ONHYM) and the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC).

Seep Sampling for Exploration

Geochemical seep studies, known as seep hunting, allow for the detection and evaluation of potential natural hydrocarbon emanations from the subsurface to the seafloor.

This information helps in understanding active petroleum systems and guiding exploration programs in offshore areas.

The combination of MBES surveys and seabed sampling allows for the localization of anomalies, selection of sites of interest, and acquisition of samples for geochemical analysis.

TDI-Brooks stated that these types of campaigns contribute to reducing risks and costs in offshore exploration by providing a quantitative assessment of potential sites with the presence of migrated hydrocarbons.

Experience in Oceanographic Studies

TDI-Brooks International has three decades of experience in marine research and services.

The company develops geotechnical, oceanographic, environmental, and surface geochemical exploration projects for sectors such as oil and gas, submarine cables, renewable energy, and government agencies.

The company operates five multipurpose research vessels: R/V BROOKS McCALL, R/V MISS EMMA McCALL, R/V GYRE, R/V PROTEUS, and R/V NAUTILUS. These units support geophysical survey activities, sampling, environmental studies, and oceanographic campaigns across various regions.

With this new campaign in Liberia, TDI-Brooks, GeoPartners, and NOCAL aim to strengthen the geological knowledge of the Liberian offshore margin and provide technical information for future energy exploration opportunities in the region.
