The Plenitude group has started production at its Caparacena solar plant, located between Chimeneas and Ventas de Huelma, in the province of Granada. With this step, the Italian company strengthens its position in the Spanish renewable energy market. renewable energy and exceeds 1.5 GW of installed capacity in the country.
Solar plant with environmental and cultural impact
The complex consists of three photovoltaic parks of 50 MW each and extends over 264 hectares. Equipped with more than 274,000 bifacial solar panels, it will generate an estimated 320 GWh of electricity per year. This clean energy will contribute to reducing the carbon footprint and support the regional decarbonization objective.
During the works, measures were implemented to protect the environment and preserve the soil, as part of the regulatory requirements. In April 2024, these works led to the discovery of an Iberian necropolis from the 6th century BC, which included funerary urns and other objects of archaeological value. The discovery was integrated into the heritage conservation plan, highlighting the coexistence between technology and cultural legacy.
The Caparacena plant joins other strategic projects by Plenitude in Andalusia, such as the Guillena solar plant, with a capacity of 230 MW, and the ongoing work at Entrenúcleos, which will add another 200 MW. These initiatives reaffirm the company’s commitment to sustainable development and energy independence in southern Spain.
