Pirelli launches its first sustainable tire with 70% recycled material

Pirelli has taken an important step in the automotive industry. automotive industry with the launch of its first environmentally friendly “Pirelli P Zero” standard production tire, which exceeds 70% bio-based and recycled materials. This breakthrough reinforces its strategic partnership with Jaguar Land Rover (JLR).

Pirelli P Zero incorporates recycled steel and rice silica

In particular, the new Pirelli P Zero is offered in Range Rover-specific versions with 22-inch wheels, in line with JLR’s objectives to reduce the environmental impact of its luxury vehicles. The Italian brand incorporates in these tires innovative materials such as recycled steelsilica from rice husks and circular carbon black. Also noteworthy is the use of bio-circular polymers derived from used oils. used oils and vegetable bio-resins that balance dry and wet performance.

Likewise, one of the differentiating elements of these sustainable tires is the FSC certification, which guarantees a responsible supply chain for the natural rubber used, which represents approximately 25% of the weight of the final product.

UHP performance and sustainability as a priority

For its part, Pirelli’s Research and Development department faced the challenge of maintaining the Ultra High Performance (UHP) characteristic of the P Zero line while significantly raising the proportion of components with low environmental impact.

It should be recalled that in 2021 Pirelli was a pioneer in manufacturing a tire with FSC-certified natural rubber. This new launch reinforces Pirelli’s leadership in the innovation of sustainable materials and promotes a more responsible value chain in the automotive sector.

With this commitment, JLR becomes the first manufacturer to equip its models with Pirelli tires. to equip its models with Pirelli tires that integrate 100% FSC tires with 100% FSC-certified natural rubber, consolidating its commitment to sustainability and innovation.
