Marine design and engineering firm Glosten has been contracted by American Marine Corporation to develop the complete design and engineering package for two new 122-foot ocean-going line tugs. The acquisition represents the first new tug construction in the operator’s 50-year history.
Operational capabilities of the new ocean-going tugs
In this regard, the vessels are based on Glosten’s existing CT-120 concept, optimized in direct collaboration with the American Marine Corporation technical team. The units are designed to meet offshore service requirements through a design focused on autonomy, operational range, and structural reliability.
Furthermore, each tug will have a usable fuel capacity of 130,000 gallons and is projected to reach a bollard pull exceeding 85 metric tons. These features will allow for prolonged missions in complex high-seas conditions.
Moreover, the addition of these vessels strengthens the U.S. commercial fleet in a context characterized by the low frequency of custom-designed ocean-going tug construction. The project also marks the launch of the first shipbuilding program at the New Pacific Industrial shipyard in Vancouver, Washington.
Finally, the joint work between Glosten, American Marine Corporation, and New Pacific Industrial is progressing according to the established schedule. Delivery of the first operational vessel is scheduled for 2028.
