Evonik and Fuhua have completed construction of a specialty-grade hydrogen peroxide (H2O2) plant in Leshan, China, with the aim of meeting the growing demand for high-purity products in technology industries. The facility, which will enter the testing phase before starting commercial operations in 2026, strengthens both companies’ presence in the Asian specialty chemicals market.

A bet on H2O2 growth in Asia

The specialty-grade hydrogen peroxide (H2O2) plant in Leshan, Sichuan Province, China, developed through the Evonik Fuhua New Materials joint venture, is now preparing to start its trial production phase, with commercial volumes expected to be reached in the second quarter of 2026.

In addition, this project responds to the sustained increase in demand in Asia-Pacific for high-purity chemicals. high-purity chemicals for advanced industrial for advanced industrial applications.

Technology and capacity for high-end applications

The plant will use technology licensed by Evonik’s Active Oxygens business unit, which will enable the transformation of industrial-grade hydrogen peroxide into high-purity products. Fuhua will also supply the raw material base, integrating its industrial chain with its partner’s technological capabilities.

The facility will have an annual production capacity of 20,000 tons, oriented to sectors such as:

  • Semiconductor manufacturing.
  • Production of solar cells.
  • Food packaging.
  • Cosmetics and pharmaceuticals.

These industries require high purity standards, which positions the project within the highest value-added segment of the chemical market.

Strategic cooperation between Evonik and Fuhua

Christian Kullmann, chairman of Evonik’s Executive Board, stressed that the initiative reflects the combination of technological improvement and international collaboration. As he explained, the project allows the integration of global capabilities with local knowledge to offer solutions tailored to customers.

In the same vein, Claus Rettig emphasized that the plant will strengthen supply capacity in Asia, improving operational efficiency and response to regional demand.

Meanwhile, Zhang Hua, president of Fuhua, noted that this alliance promotes the company’s evolution towards products with greater specialization and international projection, aligning with China’s industrial priorities.

A crucial product with environmental advantages

Hydrogen peroxide is an essential compound in many industries, from electronics to renewable energy. renewable energy. Its versatility lies in its capacity as an oxidizing agent in high-precision industrial processes.

It also has a significant environmental advantage: after use, it decomposes into water and oxygen, which reduces its environmental impact compared to other chemical substances.

In this context, the new plant reinforces the trend towards more efficient and sustainable chemical solutions, in line with current global market requirements.
