Lummus Technology incorporates intellectual property and specialized personnel from Shell’s Environmental Catalysts and Systems business to expand its capabilities in emissions control technologies.
Lummus strengthens its emissions control solutions
Lummus Technology acquired intellectual property assets and experienced personnel associated with Shell Catalysts & Technologies’ Environmental Catalysts and Systems (ECS) business. The transaction expands the company’s capabilities in technologies for industrial emissions control.
With this acquisition, Lummus gains an international customer base, established service relationships, and technologies developed to reduce air pollutants. These capabilities will complement its portfolio of process technologies used in sectors such as refining, petrochemicals, and waste processing.
Furthermore, the acquisition of ECS will allow Lummus to combine its process technologies with solutions geared towards meeting environmental requirements. The company will thus be able to expand the support it offers its customers throughout the lifecycle of their industrial assets.
Leon de Bruyn Lummus Technology’s president and CEO, stated that the acquisition immediately strengthens the company’s capabilities in emissions control and environmental solutions. He also emphasized that the long-term relationship with Shell Catalysts & Technologies laid the groundwork for completing the transaction.
DeNOx systems to reduce industrial emissions
ECS was originally developed by Shell Catalysts & Technologies to reduce harmful emissions from industrial operations. The business has over 30 years of experience and its technologies have been deployed for more than 300 customers worldwide, including Shell facilities.
Among the solutions that will strengthen the portfolio of Enchantment DeNOx systems are among them. These technologies are designed to reduce emissions of nitrogen oxides (NOx) and help industrial facilities meet increasingly stringent environmental standards while maintaining their operational performance.
According to the information published on the operation, ECS technologies can achieve reduction rates of over 98-99% for certain pollutants in specific applications.
This capability is relevant for refineries, petrochemical complexes, and other industrial facilities subject to air emission limits. By incorporating ECS’s assets, Lummus will be able to combine environmental control technologies with its expertise in industrial processes and services.
The acquisition expands Lummus’ technology platform
Furthermore, ECS’s intellectual property assets will strengthen the process technologies already part of Lummus’ portfolio. The company aims to offer more integrated solutions for refining, petrochemical, and waste processing facilities.
The acquisition also incorporates decades of technical expertise in environmental systems. This will allow Lummus to expand its capabilities to meet the needs of facilities seeking to reduce pollutants without compromising the continuity and performance of their processes.
In turn, ECS’s customer base strengthens Lummus’s presence in different industrial markets. The company will be able to extend its services throughout the asset lifecycle and link the acquired technologies with other solutions in its portfolio.
Shell will maintain support during the transition
Shell Catalysts & Technologies, for its part, believes that the transfer will allow the ECS business to continue growing within a platform specializing in environmental solutions.
Elise H. Nowee the president of Shell Catalysts & Technologies explained that the company has developed and supported ECS for years to help its customers meet stricter emissions requirements. She also highlighted the existing relationship between Shell and Lummus in the area of specialized catalysts.
Shell Catalysts & Technologies will continue to support ECS customers during a transition period. This measure aims to ensure continuity of supply and services while Lummus integrates the assets and personnel involved in the acquisition.
The acquisition places a portfolio developed over three decades for industrial emissions control under Lummus’s technology platform. With this addition, the company expands its capabilities to meet environmental requirements in sectors such as refining, petrochemicals, and other industrial activities.
