Chevron controls fire at its El Segundo refinery

Chevron is investigating the causes of an explosion that triggered an intense emergency response at its El Segundo plant.

On the night of Thursday, October 2, a fire broke out in a processing unit inside the Chevron refinery at the Chevron Chevron refinery refinery, located southwest of Los Angeles. The fire, which generated a blaze visible for miles around, was contained thanks to the immediate response of the company’s emergency teams and local authorities.

Fire at El Segundo refinery without injuries

At approximately 9:30 p.m., an explosion rocked the facility, sparking an intense combustion in an area near the southeast corner of the plant. Chevron crews, along with the El Segundo and Manhattan Beach fire departments, were able to put out the fire after several hours of coordinated work. Fortunately, there were no injuries to employees or contractors, stated CNN USA. .

As a precautionary measure, Chevron’s Health, Safety and Environment team conducted mobile air quality monitoring in the surrounding communities, with no hazardous levels detected. State and federal authorities, including CalOSHA, CALOSPR and the South Coast Air Quality Management District, are closely monitoring the situation and have been informed from the outset.

Ongoing research and cooperation with regulatory agencies

Chevron has initiated an internal investigation to determine the exact causes of the incident. In the meantime, it continues to work with relevant regulators, such as the California Energy Commission, to ensure compliance with all regulations and to reinforce safety protocols in its operations.

The visual magnitude of the fire generated concern among residents of the greater Los Angeles area, some of whom reported feeling a vibration at the time of the explosion.
