Snow Lake Resources Ltd. (also known as Snow Lake Energy) has made a significant discovery at its Mound Lake property in Ontario. The company has identified elevated levels of gallium in rock samples , a key mineral for the development of advanced technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI) and next-generation data centers.

This discovery, in partnership with Free Battery Metal Limited, highlights Snow Lake’s commitment to the exploration and supply of minerals critical to the energy transition and technological revolution.

What is gallium and why is it so important?

Gallium is an essential mineral for the manufacturing of high-performance semiconductors such as gallium arsenide (GaAs) and gallium nitride (GaN). These technologies are critical for AI, high-performance computing, and data center applications, where energy efficiency and high processing speeds are crucial.

Classified as a critical mineral due to its supply risk , gallium has become an increasingly valuable resource, especially given the recent export ban imposed by China, which controls approximately 98.8% of the world’s refined gallium supply . This landscape puts Snow Lake in a unique position to meet the challenge of diversifying gallium supply and contributing to global supply chain security, essential to the growth of the technology.

The Snow Lake team intends to continue exploring the Mound Lake property , with a particular focus on the northern areas where elevated gallium values have been identified. The company is also evaluating the possibility of acquiring additional interests in the Mound Lake property to secure long-term gallium supply.
