GKN Aerospace and General Electric (GE) have expanded their long-term collaboration on several industry-leading engines, including the GEnx program, which is the high-thrust engine with the fastest sales rate. This new agreement focuses on three main areas: the integration of new technologies, the production and assembly of fan housings, and the repair of complex and high-volume engine structures.
New technology integration programs at GEnx will focus on alternative materials solutions, seeking to establish a more sustainable manufacturing footprint for various products currently in service. GKN Aerospace will contribute its component design expertise and latest technologies to support the GEnx program’s cost and carbon emissions reduction goals.
It is anticipated that the improved components will go through the development, validation and implementation stages between 2024 and 2030.
Likewise, GKN Aerospace will now be responsible for the supply of 100% of the GEnx, CF6 and GE90 fan casings, as well as 50% of the assembly of the GE9X fan casings for the entire duration of the program. The latest aspect of this collaboration is the addition of GKN Aerospace to the GE Aerospace repair network, providing specialized repair support for the GEnx.
