Fugro has been awarded a new contract to carry out detailed geotechnical investigations on the east side of the Dogger Bank South(DBS) offshore wind farm, a project led by RWE and Masdar.

New studies at the Dogger Bank South offshore wind farm

Starting in mid-May, Fugro will deploy multiple specialized vessels 122 km off the northeast coast of England. Activities will include cone penetration testing, vibroextraction and sampling surveys, all techniques to understand the sub-seabed conditions where wind turbines, platforms and connecting cables will be installed.

To ensure the speed and reliability of the results, the SEACALF MkV Deep Drive system will be used, which optimizes the execution of tests on the seabed. optimizes the execution of tests in complex seabed complex. In addition, all the information obtained will be integrated and shared through VirGeo, a collaborative cloud platform that centralizes the project’s data.

The DBS projects are critical infrastructure developments and have the potential to supply 3 million homes with 3 GW of offshore wind generation capacity, supporting the UK Government’s clean energy targets.

Colin McAllister, head of project development for DBS offshore wind farms.

We are proud to continue our work on the Dogger Bank South offshore wind farms. Our detailed geotechnical investigations will provide a comprehensive understanding of the seabed conditions, crucial to the success of the project.
