Denmark’s Export and Investment Fund (EIFO) has announced its participation in the financing of the Baltica 2 offshore wind farm , a key project for the energy transition in Europe. With a guaranteed investment of €800 million, EIFO reaffirms its commitment to clean energy and the boost to Danish exports in the renewable sector.

A wind farm that will strengthen wind energy in Poland

Located in Polish waters and close to the Danish coast, the Baltica 2 wind farm will have an installed capacity of 1,498 MW . Its construction is being carried out by Ørsted and PGE, two leading companies in the renewable energy sector. This infrastructure is expected to contribute significantly to Poland’s goal of reaching 5.9 GW of offshore wind energy by 2030.

The EIFO financial guarantee facilitates the development of the project and strengthens Denmark’s presence in the global wind industry. Companies such as Siemens Gamesa Renewable Energy , Semco Maritime and Cadeler have secured key contracts within the initiative, strengthening Denmark’s position as a benchmark in offshore wind technology.

Baltica 2 is financed by a combination of sources: EIFO, the European Investment Bank (EIB), the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) and a consortium of international banks. This structure ensures the financial viability of the project while minimising the risks associated with large renewable infrastructures .

Boosting decarbonisation

With this second agreement in the Baltic Sea, EIFO consolidates its role as a facilitator of the energy transition in Europe. This financial support to Poland directly contributes to reducing its dependence on coal, promoting a cleaner and more secure energy supply.

This agreement reflects our strategy to provide ambitious financing to renewable energy initiatives with global impact. We are excited to collaborate with key players in the transition to a sustainable energy future.

EIFO Commercial Director Peter Boeskov stressed the importance of the project.

With the implementation of Baltica 2, EIFO reaffirms its commitment to green innovation and the promotion of sustainable solutions that benefit both the economy and the environment.
