Shanghai Electric celebrated at ZPMC’s base in Qidong, China, the christening and delivery of its first two service operating vessels (SOVs), marking an achievement in the offshore wind industry offshore wind industry. These vessels, developed in collaboration with Ulstein Design & Solutions AS, are the first of their kind designed specifically for the needs of the Chinese market.
Characteristics and technical details of SOVs
Both SOVs, the Zhi Cheng 60 and the Zhi Zhen 100, integrate innovative solutions such as the X-BOW y X-STERNdesigns, which significantly improve seakeeping performance. These advances reduce vibrations, ensuring greater safety and comfort for the crew. In addition, the vessels feature advanced dynamic positioning systems (DP2), as well as energy storage technologies. energy storage and propulsion and propulsion technologies, optimizing efficiency at sea.
The Zhi Cheng 60, with a length of 72.6 meters, can accommodate 60 people and has a deck area of 400 m². On the other hand, the Zhi Zhen 100the larger Zhi Zhen 100, with a length of 93.4 meters, can accommodate 100 people and has a deck area of 620 m². Both vessels are equipped to support offshore wind farm construction and maintenance operations, ensuring smooth logistics and safe access to the turbines.
New SOVs boost marine efficiency
Liu Xiangnan, vice president of Wind Power Company at Shanghai Electric, highlighted the importance of these vessels to the industry:
With the delivery of these world-class SOVs, we reaffirm our commitment to offshore safety and operational efficiency, adding value to our customers and improving working conditions for our team.
Runar Muren, CEO of Ulstein Design & Solutions AS, expressed his satisfaction with the project and the strong collaboration between the companies:
These vessels not only represent a breakthrough in marine engineering, but are also an example of sustainable development in the offshore wind industry in China.
With the implementation of these SOVs, Shanghai Electric is positioning itself as a leader in the transition to renewable energies, supporting the growth of offshore wind energy in China with state-of-the-art technology.
