Well-Safe Solutions and NMC Energy they will integrate subsea, platform, and well capabilities to support offshore decommissioning projects such as Beryl and Forties.

Well-Safe Solutions and NMC Energy have signed a strategic alliance to expand their combined capacity to dismantling in the North Sea the agreement will allow the integration of subsea services, platform operations, and well lifecycle management into a single offering for offshore operators.

The collaboration will support the work both companies are already carrying out at Apache’s Beryl and Forties fields. It will also serve as a basis for jointly bidding on new end-of-life and decommissioning projects in the UK and other markets.

Beryl and Forties are driving the alliance between Well-Safe and NMC Energy

Currently, the relationship between the companies is already present in Apache’s decommissioning program for Beryl and Forties. The two fields comprise more than 260 wells and Well-Safe participates in areas encompassing project management, well and subsurface engineering, and offshore execution.

NMC Energy, for its part, contributes project management capabilities and integrated engineering, procurement, and construction management solutions. The company has offices in Aberdeen and the Netherlands.

For Phil Milton, CEO of Well-Safe Solutions, the work done so far has demonstrated that the capabilities of both companies are complementary. The alliance aims to extend that coordination to a broader offering for complex decommissioning projects.

Subsea and platform services under a single strategy

In addition, the agreement includes critical services to connect underwater operations with activities carried out on the platforms.

The planned work includes the washing of pipes and flow lines and the integration of equipment used during dismantling onto the platform. It also includes modular platform solutions, Engineering Down and Clean (EDC) work, and preparing surface facilities for heavy lifting operations.

This combination expands Well-Safe’s capabilities during the later stages of the asset lifecycle and allows well operations to be incorporated into other necessary work before offshore infrastructure is decommissioned.

Furthermore, the integration of personnel, equipment, and services can reduce interfaces between contractors during execution. Companies expect this model to shorten timelines and reduce costs through coordinated planning.

An integrated solution for offshore assets at the end of their useful life

The strategy responds to the complexity involved in managing mature facilities, decommissioning may require work on wells, subsea systems, pipelines, and surface structures before completing the removal operations.

Well-Safe and NMC Energy seek to offer a common platform to coordinate these phases, so that operators can concentrate different activities within an integrated scheme from planning to offshore execution.

Konstantin Nazaruk, CEO of NMC Energy, noted that the alliance brings together complementary expertise in subsea operations, platform interfaces, and decommissioning. According to Nazaruk, working with Well-Safe will improve the planning, execution, and value of complex projects during the final stages of asset lifecycles.

The North Sea offers new opportunities for decommissioning

Finally, the alliance positions both companies to expand their participation in projects of offshore decommissioning after the joint experience in Beryl and Forties.

Well-Safe seeks to leverage its capabilities throughout the well lifecycle, while NMC Energy incorporates expertise in platform integration and subsea services.

The cooperation will also have international reach, the companies plan to explore new opportunities where the integration of engineering, offshore operations, and decommissioning services will reduce interfaces and improve project execution.
