TGS announced the award of a new contract for the characterization of a site intended for the development of an offshore wind farm in Europe, thereby strengthening its presence in one of the most dynamic markets of the energy transition.
According to the company, the vessel Ramform Vanguard will begin data acquisition in early August 2026. The campaign will last approximately three weeks and will focus on collecting detailed information about the seabed to support future engineering and construction decisions.
Site Characterization for an Offshore Wind Farm
The advancement of offshore wind energy in Europe continues to drive the need for specialized studies that enable technical risk reduction during the early stages of projects.
In this context, site characterization plays a key role by providing information about the geological and geophysical conditions of the area where wind infrastructure will be installed. These data help optimize the design of foundations, cable routes, and other critical elements for offshore wind farm construction.
Seismic Technology to Obtain Detailed Subsurface Images
To execute the project, TGS will use its ultra-high-resolution 3D seismic streamer technology, a solution designed to capture information with a high level of spatial and temporal detail.
The company noted that this technology enables the generation of precise images of shallow subsurface targets, information considered essential for evaluating seabed conditions before the start of construction.
Likewise, the company highlighted that the solution has proven experience in site characterization projects for offshore wind farms, a segment that has gained relevance as installed renewable energy capacity in European waters increases.
TGS Seeks to Expand Its Activity During 2026
Kristian Johansen, CEO of TGS, stated that the award is part of a broader campaign for the 2026 European season.
The executive explained that the company continues to actively participate in new tenders related to offshore wind energy and is evaluating opportunities to extend its data acquisition operations through the fourth quarter of the year.
The strategy aligns with the sustained growth of offshore projects in Europe, where governments and developers continue to accelerate investments aimed at strengthening renewable electricity generation and advancing decarbonization goals.
A Strategic Market for the Energy Transition
TGS specializes in providing data and intelligence for companies in the energy sector. Its technology portfolio encompasses solutions for exploration, resource evaluation, and decision-making support throughout the energy value chain.
The award of this new contract confirms the growing importance of site characterization services within offshore wind farm development. As the offshore industry expands its scale, the availability of high-quality geophysical information becomes a fundamental element for improving the planning and execution of new projects.
