Geoscience company Shearwater Geoservices successfully concluded a 3D seismic exploration and survey program off the coast of Nigeria. This commercial campaign was executed for TotalEnergies EP Nigeria Limited and Matrix Energy, with logistical support from Harvex Geosolutions. Operations in the Atlantic Ocean extended for a continuous period of two months, achieving the originally established collection objectives.

Regarding technological deployment, this involved the use of an advanced towed streamer configuration combined with a subsurface acquisition system to obtain high-fidelity measurements. For the execution of the sampling, the company mobilized the main seismic vessel SW Duchess, responsible for receiving reflected waves from the seabed.
Meanwhile, the SW Gallien vessel operated exclusively as an acoustic source vessel. The collection of geophysical data will optimize structural knowledge of the reservoirs located in the aforementioned territorial concessions.
Likewise, the collection of three-dimensional information mitigates geological uncertainty in areas with pre-existing infrastructure using the undershoot technique. This methodology facilitates scanning beneath operational platforms without interrupting the usual production dynamics of the operators in the area.
Furthermore, the completion of this contract represents a consolidation of the Norwegian corporation’s services in the Gulf of Guinea. The development of energy projects on the African continent demands high-resolution technologies to ensure efficient investments in resource extraction. The firm’s executive management stated that the project’s conclusion strengthens commercial ties with global and local operators.
At Shearwater, we are pleased to complete this towed streamer 3D seismic survey with a subsurface acquisition system off the coast of Nigeria, which reinforces our strong relationship with TotalEnergies and adds to a work program in Nigeria and across the region.
