Shearwater Geoservices will deploy the ships SW Tasman and SW Gaul in a new campaign of seismic acquisition through seabed nodes in South American waters.
The Norwegian company OBN obtained a three-year seismic contract in South American waters for a major oil and gas company, whose identity was not revealed.
The agreement involves acquiring data using seabed nodes (OBN) and will begin during the fourth quarter of 2026. To carry out the work, Shearwater will deploy two of its specialized vessels along with its Pearl node technology.
SW Tasman and SW Gallien will participate in the seismic campaign
He SW Tasman it will be deployed using Pearl technology Shearwater to carry out operations with seabed nodes. Meanwhile, the SW Gaul will be responsible for providing the necessary seismic source during the campaign.
With this configuration, the company will combine its naval capabilities with its OBN platform to carry out seismic data acquisition in an offshore basin in South America.
The contract contemplates firm work during the first and third years of the awarded period, and also includes a framework that will allow the client to assign additional projects to the company while the agreement remains in force.
Seismic operations will continue until 2029
According to the announced schedule, the activities will begin in the fourth quarter of 2026, while both ships will remain active during 2027.
Subsequently, a new phase is planned seismic acquisition starting in late 2028, this stage will last approximately ten months, so the work associated with the contract could extend throughout much of 2029.
The structure of the agreement allows combining campaigns already committed with the possibility of incorporating new seismic surveys during its three years of validity.
Pearl technology strengthens Shearwater OBN platform
Technology Pearl is one of the main components of the OBN seismic acquisition platform from Shearwater. Its integration with the SW Tasman will allow the deployment of the seabed nodes planned for this campaign.
Irene Waage Basili, CEO of Shearwater, highlighted the importance of the contract for the company’s OBN platform and for consolidating its presence in South America.
The executive also linked the award to the company’s involvement in the development of one of the world’s major offshore basins. However, the company did not identify the oil and gas operator that awarded the contract, nor did it specify the exact location of the work.
Shearwater expands its seismic activity in South America
The new award is announced after the start of multi-client seismic study Amapá 3D off the coast of Brazil. The company is developing this survey in collaboration with SLB, which reinforces its activity in the acquisition of marine seismic data within the region.
In this way, the new contract expands Shearwater project portfolio in South America and ensures activity for its OBN assets during different periods between the end of 2026 and 2029.
