Shearwater Geoservices AS was selected by Adura Operations Limited to execute a seismic acquisition project using ocean floor nodes (OBN) in the Jackdaw field located in the British sector of the North Sea.

The study will last approximately two months and seeks to collect high-resolution seismic data to improve the characterization of the deposits present throughout the offshore field.

The project will cover 220 km² of seismic acquisition

According to information released by the company, the operational scope comprises approximately 220 square kilometers of marine seismic acquisition using the SW Tasman vessel and OBN technologies developed by Shearwater for complex offshore operations.

Likewise, the SW Gallien vessel will participate in the project by providing the seismic source capabilities necessary for the geophysical campaign.

OBN technology has become a fundamental tool for improving the image quality of the seabed, especially in mature areas of the North Sea where operators seek to optimize reservoir interpretation and reduce technical uncertainties.

Shearwater strengthens its presence in the OBN market

Shearwater CEO Irene Waage Basili highlighted that the award strengthens the company’s image within the global market for seismic acquisition using ocean floor nodes.

We look forward to collaborating with Adura on this OBN project. This contract reinforces Shearwater’s leading position in the global OBN market and its extensive technical capacity to provide services to basin operators.

The project also reflects the increased investment in advanced seismic surveys aimed at improving the geological understanding of strategic offshore assets in the UK.

The Jackdaw field continues to advance in offshore development

The Jackdaw field is considered one of the relevant developments within the British North Sea sector due to its gas production potential and the technical needs associated with the evaluation of the subsurface.

In this context, the OBN seismic acquisition will allow for the generation of more detailed information on the geological structure of the reservoir and support future operational decisions related to the development of the asset.

Shearwater currently maintains global operations in geoscientific services and offshore seismic acquisition using specialized fleets and technological systems for marine exploration and underwater data analysis.
