EtihadWE it signed a reservation agreement with Siemens Energy to secure the gas and steam turbines for the Al Zawra combined cycle power plant, a 2.6 GW electricity generation project planned for Ajman, United Arab Emirates. The reservation allows for progress in securing the availability of essential equipment for the future CCGT plant while the subsequent development phases continue, Siemens Energy will be responsible for supplying the turbines required for the installation.
EtihadWE secures Siemens Energy turbines for Al Zawra
The agreement was formalized during a visit by Yousif Ahmed Al Ali, CEO of EtihadWE, to Siemens Energy’s facilities in Berlin, the UAE delegation also included Sharif Al Olama, Undersecretary of Energy and Petroleum Affairs at the Ministry of Energy and Infrastructure. The meeting aimed to strengthen strategic cooperation between the two parties within the Emirati energy sector, with a planned capacity of 2.6 GW, the Al Zawra combined cycle power plant will require gas and steam turbines as part of its generation system. The agreement with Siemens Energy it allows you to reserve this equipment in advance for the development of the plant.
The combined cycle power plant will have a capacity of 2.6 GW
The future facility will add additional electricity generation capacity to the northern emirates of the UAE, its development responds to the anticipated growth in electricity demand and the need to strengthen the infrastructure supplying this region of the country. The combined cycle plant uses gas and steam turbines within the same generation system. At Al Zawra, this equipment will be part of the planned configuration to reach a capacity of 2.6 GW.
The reservation of the turbines represents a preliminary phase within the contracting process for the plant; the project will still have to advance through other stages of acquisition and development before construction can begin. Securing this type of equipment in advance allows for reducing uncertainties related to its availability while other components of the future power plant continue to be defined.
Al Zawra will bolster electricity generation in the UAE
EtihadWE aims to expand the electrical infrastructure serving the northern emirates with the Al Zawra power plant, the new plant is expected to provide additional capacity to meet increasing demand and strengthen the reliability of the electricity supply, the project also aligns with the UAE’s plans to develop a more efficient generation infrastructure, better equipped to support economic growth and future electricity needs.
The addition of a 2.6 GW facility will significantly expand the available capacity in this region and strengthen the electrical system in the face of continued growth in consumption. With the reservation agreement, EtihadWE secures one of the main components of the Al Zawra combined cycle power plant while the next stages of contracting and project development progress.
