The company Omega Subsea has finalized a five-year commercial agreement with NKT to equip the NKT Eleonora cable-laying vessel with remotely operated vehicle technology (better known as ROV systems). This contract adds to the previous award secured in June for the NKT Victoria vessel, strengthening the operational relationship between the two specialist firms.
Fleet expansion and deployment of ROV systems at Norwegian shipyards
Mobilization work for the equipment is currently being carried out simultaneously at the Norwegian shipyards in Ulsteinvik and Brattvåg. Planning indicates that onboard operations on the NKT Victoria will begin before the end of this year, while integration of the ROV systems on the NKT Eleonora is scheduled for January 2027.
In addition, the project for the NKT Victoria includes the supply of two launch and recovery systems (LARS) developed by Ulmatec. These structures will be located in the vessel’s hangar to provide technical support for the two ROV units assigned to this vessel.
With reference to the global investment plan, Omega Subsea’s corporate target is to exceed 30 operational ROV units by mid-2028. Under this equipment program, four of the eight new systems ordered from manufacturer Kystdesign for delivery in 2026 will be allocated to projects carried out with NKT.
For its part, the company’s executive management indicates that the subsea cable-laying sector continues to see sustained demand with strong long-term growth prospects. The corporate strategy seeks to strengthen the group’s position as a comprehensive provider of deepwater marine services.
Likewise, operational expansion will require strengthening storage infrastructure and staffing capacity. The company will launch a recruitment process to bring in between six and twelve professionals for onshore and offshore roles, while expanding logistics capabilities at its Hilleren facilities.
