SGV promotes Noble’s strategy to strengthen offshore drilling, the American company Noble Corporation incorporated a stemless gate valve (SGV) on the drilling ship Noble BlackHornet, this decision strengthens its managed pressure drilling (MPD) capabilities and reflects the company’s confidence in the sustained growth of the international offshore platform market.

SGV improves well control during drilling

As Noble explained, the SGV valve was developed in conjunction with Kinetic Pressure Control to provide a specific system capable of sealing the well during pressure-controlled drilling operations.

Furthermore, the company indicated that the integration of this equipment required a multidisciplinary engineering process involving internal specialists and industry experts. During the evaluation, aspects related to system reliability, its integration with existing blowout preventers, maintenance requirements, and compatibility with the well control systems installed on the platform were reviewed.

Noble also highlighted that this implementation seeks to preserve the integrity of critical equipment used during drilling while contributing to optimizing the operational efficiency of offshore campaigns.

A project focused on operational safety

The installation of the SGV system represents a technological evolution aimed at reinforcing drilling operations in highly complex environments.

The company noted that the project involved careful integration with the BOP system of the drilling vessel to maintain high safety standards during pressure control operations.

This development also highlights Noble’s strategy of incorporating practical solutions that address specific operational challenges within deepwater drilling.

Noble BlackHornet ready for offshore drilling

The Noble BlackHornet is a seventh-generation drillship built in 2014 based on the Gusto P10000 design, the vessel can operate in water depths of up to 3,658 meters and reach a maximum drilling depth of nearly 12,000 meters. It also features dynamic positioning, dual-activity capability, a maximum hook load of 1,250 tons, and two seven-ram blowout preventers, the vessel is currently operating for BP in the Gulf of Mexico.

Offshore market with positive prospects

The addition of this new equipment coincides with Noble’s favorable outlook for the global drilling rig market offshore.

The company believes that the demand forecast for the coming years will favor greater activity of its fleet, while it continues to incorporate technologies aimed at increasing efficiency, equipment reliability and safety during deepwater drilling operations.
