New Wave Offshore Energy has been selected by Shell to provide marine assurance services for the Orca project, located in the Santos pre-salt basin off the coast of Brazil. This award strengthens the company’s position in the deepwater offshore oil and gas market.
The contract includes marine assurance inspection (MWS) services focused on risk management and safety oversight during various stages of offshore development. The Orca project has an estimated recoverable resource volume of approximately 370 million barrels.
Maritime supervision for complex offshore operations
New Wave Offshore Energy’s operational scope includes vessel inspections, engineering reviews, and oversight of transportation and installation (T&I) operations. These activities aim to ensure that operations comply with the technical and safety conditions established for the project.
In addition, the company will conduct independent assessments to verify compliance with the maritime guarantees agreed upon by the development operators. This type of service is crucial in large-scale offshore projects due to the risks associated with deep-water operations.
Likewise, New Wave Offshore’s participation in Orca expands its MWS service portfolio for international operators in the energy sector.
Shell promotes the development of the Orca project in Brazil
The Orca project, formerly known as Gato do Mato, is being developed in one of Brazil’s most important offshore regions. Shell currently operates the asset in partnership with Ecopetrol and Pré-Sal Petróleo S.A. (PPSA).
The initiative received final investment approval in 2025 and is part of Shell’s offshore expansion strategy in the Brazilian pre-salt region. According to project estimates, production could reach up to 120,000 barrels per day once operations begin, scheduled for 2029.
In addition to the marine guarantee services awarded to New Wave Offshore, the project also includes contracts for the supply of subsea pipelines and integrated engineering for offshore infrastructure.
New Wave Offshore strengthens its marine guarantee portfolio
Since 2018, New Wave Offshore Energy has developed specialized marine assurance and supervision services for offshore energy projects. The company is involved in operations related to FPSOs, subsea construction, and the decommissioning of marine infrastructure.
Kyle Eddings, the company’s founder and CEO, noted that the award confirms the organization’s technical capability and operational discipline to execute complex offshore projects.
With this contract, the company strengthens its image within the global market for maritime guarantees for offshore oil and gas projects.
