NASA and Firefly Aerospace are finalizing technical details for the Blue Ghost lunar landing, scheduled for March 2, as part of the Commercial Lunar Payload Services ( CLPS) program . This event will chronicle lunar exploration and its advances in using private technology to transport scientific cargo and related equipment.

NASA and Firefly’s goal: Mare Crisium

The Blue Ghost module is scheduled to land in Mare Crisium , a plain located in the northeast quadrant of the Moon’s near side. In addition, its cargo includes 10 scientific experiments and technological demonstrations developed by NASA , designed to gather information about the lunar environment and test innovations that will facilitate future manned missions.

On January 15, Blue Ghost lifted off from Kennedy Space Center on a Falcon 9 rocket. SpaceX . Firefly Aerospace, the aerospace company in charge of the lander, was selected in 2021 by NASA for this mission, with a contract worth $101.5 million.

NASA and Firefly will livestream the event on NASA+ and Firefly’s YouTube channel. Coverage will begin at 2:30 a.m. EST, approximately 75 minutes before landing. This mission is part of the Artemis campaign, which seeks to establish a sustainable lunar presence and serve as a foundation for future crewed missions to Mars. Through CLPS , NASA works with multiple companies to bring technology and scientific experimentation to the Moon.
