Marco Polo Marine, through its specialized division PKR Offshore, signed a framework agreement with Siemens Gamesa Renewable Energy for the deployment and chartering of two Commissioning Service Operation Vessels (CSOVs) intended for offshore wind energy projects in Taiwan, with possibilities for expansion to South Korea and Japan.

The agreement will enable PKR Offshore to supply two vessels currently under construction to support installation, commissioning, and maintenance activities for offshore wind farms developed by Siemens Gamesa under a non-exclusive collaboration arrangement.

A Partnership That Strengthens Presence in Asian Offshore Wind Energy

The agreement consolidates Marco Polo Marine’s strategy to expand its participation in the Asian offshore market, where demand for specialized vessels continues to grow due to the accelerated development of new offshore wind farms.

Currently, PKR Offshore operates the MP Wind Archer, a CSOV that began its first commercial contract in Taiwan during April 2025. The company is also constructing the CSOV Plus at its shipyard in Batam, Indonesia, with delivery scheduled for the second quarter of 2028, while a third unit remains in the planning phase.

With this new collaboration, the company secures a long-term demand portfolio for its future specialized fleet.

CSOVs Equipped with Hybrid Propulsion

The two vessels will incorporate the BlueDrive PlusC system developed by Siemens Energy.

This hybrid technology aims to improve fuel consumption efficiency, reduce emissions, and optimize offshore operations, factors increasingly relevant for offshore wind energy projects.

The CSOVs are designed to accommodate technicians, transport specialized equipment, and provide continuous support during wind turbine installation and maintenance operations, in addition to being able to operate in oil and gas sector projects when market conditions require it.

Taiwan Continues to Consolidate as a Strategic Market

The initial deployment of the new vessels will take place in Taiwan, considered one of the fastest-growing offshore wind energy markets in Asia-Pacific.

PKR Offshore’s presence in this country complements its current fleet of Crew Transfer Vessels (CTVs) and Commissioning Service Operation Vessels (CSOVs) dedicated to logistical support for offshore wind farms.

The agreement also contemplates the possibility of utilizing the fleet in future projects developed by Siemens Gamesa in South Korea and Japan, expanding the regional reach of both companies.

Executives Highlight the Collaboration

Sean Lee, Chief Executive Officer and Managing Director of Marco Polo Marine, stated that obtaining a multi-year agreement before delivery of the new vessels represents validation of the CSOV Plus capabilities and PKR Offshore’s operational experience in the Taiwanese market.

For his part, Kelvin Teo, Managing Director of PKR Offshore, noted that the commitment will enable better advance planning for crew allocation, fleet availability, and strengthening of local capabilities to meet Siemens Gamesa’s needs.

Finally, Radoslaw Rams, Head of Project Management for Offshore Asia-Pacific at Siemens Gamesa, indicated that the agreement strengthens the company’s offshore execution capacity and contributes to the development of a regional supply chain capable of supporting the sustained growth of offshore wind energy in Asia-Pacific.
