Sol Systems Lumberton this is the new renewable energy asset that is adding to its portfolio after acquiring the 200 MW-ac facility located in Hardin County, Texas, from DESRI.
This transaction marks Sol Systems’ second project acquisition in 2026 and expands its presence in the US large-scale solar power generation market. Furthermore, Lumberton is backed by a long-term power purchase agreement.
With this acquisition, the independent power producer seeks to advance its strategy of building, owning, and operating clean energy infrastructure in the United States. The company has a multi-gigawatt development pipeline and integrates energy storage and grid resilience solutions.
Lumberton solar project will move towards construction
DESRI was responsible for the development, permitting, and marketing phases of the project before its transfer to Sol Systems. Now, the new owner plans to move Lumberton into the construction and long-term operation phases. The facility is located in Texas, one of the largest electricity markets in the United States.
Andrew Grin the senior vice president of Mergers and Acquisitions and Strategic Alliances at Sol System emphasized that the asset aligns with the company’s growth strategy and its goal of generating long-term value for the communities. According to the executive, DESRI developed a high-quality project, and Sol Systems will continue the work as it moves toward the next stages of development.
A 200 MW solar plant in Hardin County
Furthermore, the acquisition will have a local economic dimension, Sol Systems the company expects the construction of the solar plant to create jobs, while its operation will generate long-term tax revenue and investment in Hardin County. The company also plans to collaborate with local stakeholders to identify opportunities to address community priorities throughout the facility’s operational life. In this way, Lumberton is part of a strategy that combines renewable electricity generation with investments associated with the development of large-scale energy infrastructure.
DESRI completes the transfer of the asset to Sol Systems
Meanwhile, for DESRI, the transaction represents the culmination of several years of development, Hy Martin, the company’s development director, noted that the team expects Lumberton to move forward with construction and operation under the management of Sol System. DESRI maintains a broad portfolio within the US market of renewable energies the company has more than 80 contracted solar, wind and storage projects, operational or under construction, representing a combined capacity of more than 12 GW.
Sol Systems, for its part, was founded in 2008 and operates as an independent power producer. Its business includes clean energy infrastructure for Fortune 500 companies, municipalities, electric utilities, and educational institutions.
