Longitude introduced Proper Live Load, an FPSO mooring monitoring system designed to calculate mooring line tension in real time and anticipate integrity risks in offshore floating units.

The platform has already secured its first commercial contract with a South American oil and gas operator, whose name was not disclosed. The agreement includes the use of the software for one year aboard an FPSO.

Continuous Monitoring for Offshore Operations

The PLL system aims to address a common limitation in floating operations: the lack of continuous visibility into the condition of mooring lines. In many cases, operators rely on periodic inspections, aging load cells, or isolated data that do not always allow critical changes to be detected in time.

Furthermore, an undetected failure in a mooring line can cause unit excursions, riser damage, production interruptions, and environmental incidents. For this reason, Longitude proposes a more predictive management approach based on sensors, digital models, and data analysis.

How Does Proper Live Load’s AI-Powered FPSO Mooring Work?

Proper Live Load receives information from geopositioning sensors installed aboard the FPSO. It then processes that data through a mooring analysis model calibrated with UWILD inspections using ROV and actual conditions of the deployed lines.

Likewise, the system can estimate tension in real time, monitor vessel excursions, and trigger structured alarms in response to abnormal patterns. The solution also integrates GNSS and inertial data to analyze movements in six degrees of freedom, such as surge, roll, pitch, and yaw.

AI to Anticipate Fatigue and Inspections

The platform incorporates wind, wave, current data, historical operational records, and machine learning models. With this information, it can predict the behavior of the vessel and its mooring lines under expected conditions.

Additionally, analysis of the tension history enables real-time fatigue tracking. This helps plan inspections, maintenance, or replacements before deterioration affects operational continuity.

A First Deployment in South America

Longitude, the design and engineering division of ABL Group, indicated that this first deployment validates the approach of an intelligent and integrated platform for the offshore industry. The company also highlighted its experience in naval architecture, marine engineering, vessel design, pre-FEED, FEED, and marine operations.

With this implementation, FPSO mooring monitoring adds a digital tool aimed at improving safety, mechanical integrity, and decision-making in floating oil and gas assets.
