A key project to transform West Africa’s energy system
GasEntec has taken a decisive step in Senegal’s energy development by securing the contract to build a new liquefied natural gas (LNG) import terminal in Dakar, an infrastructure project that promises to redefine the country’s power supply and industrial growth.
The project includes a regasification unit located on a marine jetty, along with onshore facilities designed to supply a 300 MW power generation plant in Cap des Biches, as well as various industrial consumers.
Reliable energy for an expanding economy
In a context where electricity demand is growing steadily, this terminal is positioned as a strategic piece to diversify Senegal’s energy matrix and reduce dependence on more expensive or polluting fuels.
The objective is clear: to guarantee a more stable and competitive energy supply, capable of sustaining both the country’s urban development and industrial expansion.
Accelerated schedule and long-term vision
GasEntec anticipates an accelerated execution of the project, with the goal of starting operations in the first half of 2027, an ambitious timeframe that reflects the urgency of strengthening the national energy infrastructure.
The CEO of ELTON Logistics & Services highlighted that this initiative will not only improve access to energy but will also serve as a catalyst for economic growth and industrialization.
LNG terminal as a driver of energy transition in Africa
The Dakar terminal aims to become a key hub for natural gas imports in West Africa, integrating maritime and land infrastructure to serve multiple sectors.
