Kongsberg Maritime has been selected to provide an advanced solution of deck machinery and mooring systems for a new FPSO vessel destined for an offshore project in Asian waters. The contract includes high-capacity equipment designed to operate under demanding conditions in offshore energy production facilities.

The FPSO will feature mooring systems and advanced automation.

The Norwegian company will supply an integrated package that incorporates chain traction winches, chain blockers, cable guides, riser winches and associated automation and control systems.

According to information published by Kongsberg Maritime the delivery of the equipment is scheduled for mid-2027. One of the highlighted technical aspects of the project is the use of large mooring chains, an element that reflects the operational needs of the new FPSO.

Marine technology for demanding offshore operations

Furthermore, the contract strengthens Kongsberg Maritime’s ability to develop heavy deck machinery for offshore applications where strength, precision, and technological integration are essential factors.

The company explained that the combination of specialized engineering with reliable automation systems allows them to offer solutions tailored to energy operators who require equipment prepared for complex maritime environments.

Marte Tyldum, senior vice president of Kongsberg Maritime Handling, highlighted that the project represents a new collaboration with a client who had already contracted similar solutions for another development FPSO.

IP Huse will participate in the mechanical design and manufacturing.

Within the agreement, IP Houses will be responsible for the mechanical design of the deck machinery, while Kongsberg Maritime will take over the supply of automation, control systems and the overall management of the project.

The mechanical components will be manufactured in Norway, at IP Huse’s facilities in Harøy, this integration of design, production, and management aims to ensure a coordinated delivery for the new FPSO vessel.

A new order within the Asian offshore market

The economic value of the contract, the identity of the energy operator, and the exact location of the offshore project were not disclosed. However, the award represents a new order for Kongsberg Maritime in the floating production, storage, and offloading (FPSO) unit segment.

With this project, the company continues to expand its involvement in advanced maritime solutions for FPSOs, combining high-capacity deck machinery, industrial automation, and specialized offshore engineering.
