Catalyst technologies strengthen the growth strategy of Honeywell Technologies after completing the acquisition of Johnson Matthey’s Catalytic Technologies business for £1.325 billion through an all-cash transaction. The operation reinforces the company’s position in the refining, petrochemical, and renewable fuels markets by incorporating new capabilities in catalysts and expanding its offering for the process industry.

Catalytic Technologies for the Energy Industry

With this integration, Honeywell Technologies incorporates Johnson Matthey’s expertise in catalytic technologies into its portfolio of industrial automation and digital solutions. The company will offer a more comprehensive proposition for refinery operators, petrochemical complexes, and renewable fuel plants, with tools designed to improve operational efficiency and industrial process performance.

Additionally, the acquisition expands Honeywell Technologies’ global installed base and strengthens its capacity to serve a greater number of applications within the energy and process sector.

Catalysts, Automation, and Digitalization

The strategy seeks to combine catalyst technologies with digital platforms and automation systems to optimize the performance of industrial facilities. Among the objectives are reducing emissions, increasing productivity, and supporting customers’ energy security goals.

Ken West, President and CEO of Honeywell Process Technologies, stated that the integration will enable the company to offer more comprehensive solutions to help companies increase the efficiency of their operations and accelerate the achievement of their sustainability and energy security objectives.

The Acquisition Is Part of a Corporate Transformation

The closing of the transaction occurs after the separation of Honeywell Technologies’ aerospace business, which since June 29, 2026 operates as the independent public company Honeywell Aerospace. Previously, the company had also spun off its Solstice Advanced Materials division as part of its corporate reorganization strategy.

Likewise, since 2023 Honeywell Technologies has executed acquisitions totaling approximately $11.5 billion, including Compressor Controls Corporation, SCADAfence, Carrier Global’s access solutions business, Air Products’ LNG division, Sundyne, and Li-ion Tamer. These investments reflect the company’s focus on strengthening high-value technologies for the energy and process industry.

The incorporation of Johnson Matthey’s catalytic technologies business represents a new step within that strategy and reinforces a platform oriented toward developing integrated solutions for the refining, petrochemical, and renewable fuels sectors.
