Within the framework of strengthening maritime energy transport, the technological engineering company GTT has formalized a contract with HD Korea Shipbuilding & Offshore Engineering (HD KSOE) during the second quarter of 2026.
The Transport of Liquefied Natural Gas in LNG Carriers
This agreement contemplates the technical development of storage systems for two vessels intended for the transport of liquefied natural gas. The order comes directly from the shipowner Sonangol, which seeks to expand its global operating fleet with high-efficiency infrastructure.
Regarding the project execution, construction activities will be carried out at the facilities of the HD Hyundai Samho shipyard. Each unit will have a storage capacity of 174,000 cubic meters. Likewise, the completion and final delivery of the LNG carriers are scheduled for the third quarter of 2029.
With regard to technical specifications, the cryogenic tanks will integrate the Mark III Flex membrane containment system. This technological solution patented by GTT stands out for its capacity to minimize the boil-off rate of liquefied gas, ensuring optimal safety during long-distance voyages.
The selection of this mechanism reflects the current trend in the naval industry toward energy optimization, reduction of pollutant emissions, and compliance with international environmental regulations.
Additionally, this award consolidates GTT’s positioning in the Asian heavy shipbuilding market. The recurring collaboration between French designers, Korean shipyards, and African energy corporations energizes the global supply of less polluting fuels in a context of high structural demand.
