Halliburton has been awarded a contract by Basra Oil Company (BOC) to provide integrated field management services (IFMS) and engineering, procurement, and construction management (EPCM) services for the development of the Bin Umar and Sindbad oil fields in southern Iraq. The agreement is part of the Iraqi government’s strategy to increase hydrocarbon production and strengthen the country’s energy infrastructure.
The contract integrates planning, operations, and digital solutions.
As part of the project, Halliburton will be responsible for development planning for both fields, production optimization, implementation of digital solutions, and management of EPCM activities.
The company will also deploy the Landmark platform, which will connect subsurface information with drilling, production, and business planning processes. This integration aims to provide greater operational visibility, improve project efficiency, and facilitate data-driven technical decisions.
The project supports Iraq’s energy strategy
The initiative aligns with the objectives of the Iraqi Ministry of Petroleum to strengthen the technical capabilities of Basra Oil Company through an integrated model of project implementation and knowledge transfer.
According to Halliburton, its involvement will combine project management expertise with digital tools and engineering capabilities to support the development of energy assets managed by BOC.
We are honored by the trust that Basra Oil Company has placed in Halliburton to support the development of the Bin Umar and Sindbad fields.
Zaid Khadra, Vice President for the Middle East and North Africa at Halliburton.
The executive added that the company will work with BOC to integrate workflows, digital solutions, and execution expertise in order to maximize asset value and contribute to national production and infrastructure goals.
Bin Umar will increase production and take advantage of associated gas
The program includes an initial development phase with an estimated duration of five years. During this period, Basra Oil Company expects the Bin Umar field to reach a production of approximately 150,000 barrels of oil per day, in addition to approximately 300 million standard cubic feet per day of associated gas.
The increased recovery and utilization of gas will allow for expanded supply to the domestic market and help reduce Iraq’s dependence on gas imports.
Halliburton will work alongside local resources.
BOC will retain ownership, operation, and authority over the assets throughout the project’s execution, Halliburton, for its part, will carry out activities in coordination with the state-owned company and plans to incorporate local resources to support the Ministry of Petroleum’s initiatives aimed at strengthening the workforce and increasing value generated within the country.
Founded in 1919, Halliburton is one of the world’s leading providers of products and services to the energy industry and develops technologies aimed at improving operational performance throughout the life cycle of oil and gas assets.
