GTT received a new order from the South Korean shipyard Hanwha Ocean for the design of the cryogenic tanks of an LNG carrier, on behalf of a European shipowner.
The contract was received during the second quarter of 2026 and includes the design of tanks with a total capacity of 174,000 m³, intended for the transport of liquefied natural gas. The vessel’s delivery is scheduled for the third quarter of 2029.
174,000 m³ Cryogenic Tanks
GTT will be responsible for designing the tanks of the new LNG carrier, a key task to ensure the safe storage of liquefied natural gas at cryogenic temperatures.
The tanks will be equipped with the NO96 Super+ membrane containment system, a technology developed by GTT for LNG transport vessels.
This system is part of the membrane solutions portfolio of the French company, which specializes in engineering and cryogenic technologies for the storage and maritime transport of liquefied gases.
Hanwha Ocean to Build LNG Carrier
Hanwha Ocean will be the shipyard responsible for building the vessel. The order reinforces the collaboration between the South Korean company and GTT in the large-capacity LNG carrier segment.
The order adds to other recent contracts related to 174,000 m³ LNGC vessels, a standard capacity in the new generation of LNG carriers destined for international LNG trade.
The identity of the European shipowner was not disclosed in the official announcement.
NO96 Super+ Technology for LNG
NO96 Super+ technology is designed to improve the thermal performance of LNG containment systems, helping to reduce boil-off losses and maintain cargo integrity during navigation.
In maritime LNG transport, the efficiency of the containment system is a key factor for vessel operation, as the gas must be kept in liquid state at temperatures close to -162 °C.
With this order, GTT continues to expand its presence in the LNG value chain, a market where new vessels require more efficient, secure, and globally adapted storage solutions.
Delivery Scheduled for 2029
Delivery of the new LNG carrier is scheduled for the third quarter of 2029, according to GTT’s statement.
The order confirms sustained activity in the LNG transport segment, driven by demand for maritime infrastructure to connect producers, buyers, and regasification terminals in different markets.
For GTT, the order reinforces its position as a technology provider in cryogenic membrane systems, while Hanwha Ocean consolidates its specialized shipbuilding portfolio for liquefied natural gas vessels.
