Maritime infrastructure firm Boskalis has commenced operations of its Windpiper vessel in Baltic Sea waters. The specialized subsea installation vessel has laid its first load of rocks at the Bałtyk 2 and Bałtyk 3 wind farm projects, jointly developed by Equinor and Polenergia Offshore Wind Poland.
Operational Deployment of the Windpiper Vessel in Polish Waters
Maneuvers began immediately after the vessel’s official christening ceremony. Following its departure from the shipyard, the crew sailed to the coast of Norway to load approximately 45,000 tons of rock material in a single trip, a figure representing the largest volume transported by a vessel of its type for a single project in the industry.
Consequently, technical work is progressing in the maritime zone using the vessel’s inclined fall pipe system. This system allows material to be precisely deposited on the seabed to protect the export cables responsible for connecting the energy produced by the wind farms to the Polish mainland coast.
Seabed stabilization activities are carried out in coordination with specialized company Van Oord. Both companies collaborate on the Bałtyk 2 and Bałtyk 3 developments with the aim of consolidating energy infrastructure and supporting the expansion of the offshore wind sector in Poland.
