Entr and Unitech support the development of the Bellrock offshore wind farm

Entr and Unitech will develop the electrical studies for the Bellrock offshore wind farm, a 1.8 GW floating wind project driven by Nadara in Scotland.

The Bellrock offshore wind farm will be supported by Entr, the consulting division of Aker Solutions, and its subsidiary Unitech Power Systems, selected by Nadara to develop the electrical infrastructure studies for the 1.8 GW floating project, which will be located approximately 120 kilometers off the coast of Aberdeenshire, Scotland. The award reinforces the progress of one of the UK’s most significant offshore wind initiatives, aimed at strengthening the country’s renewable generation capacity and transmission network.

Likewise, the studies will focus on defining a comprehensive concept for the project’s electrical infrastructure, covering the entire transmission system from offshore generation to connection with the onshore grid. The objective is to identify an optimized technical solution that facilitates the subsequent stages of engineering, regulatory authorizations, and investment.

They will evaluate the electrical system of the Bellrock offshore wind farm

As part of the contract, Entr and Unitech Power Systems will analyze different electrical transmission configurations and the main system components of the farm, including inter-array cabling, offshore and onshore substations, export cables, and integration with the British electricity grid. The studies will also provide estimates on costs, timelines, and supply chain availability. This information will allow Nadara to optimize its procurement strategy, reduce technical risks, and improve the development planning of Bellrock before the construction phases.

Entr will contribute its experience in project execution and operational data obtained from similar developments, while Unitech Power Systems will provide its specialization in power electrical engineering. The combination of both capabilities seeks to support investment decisions with a solid technical basis.

Bellrock seeks to strengthen the UK’s energy transition

The Bellrock offshore wind farm has the potential to become a significant contribution to Scotland’s and the UK’s decarbonization targets. In addition to increasing the installed capacity of renewable energy, the project will drive the development of the supply chain associated with floating offshore wind energy. Dorthe Kirkeby, Vice President of Ocean and Wind Energy at Entr, Aker Solutions, highlighted that the early definition of the transmission infrastructure will be crucial for controlling costs, timelines, and technical risks in large-scale projects.

For his part, David Robertson, Portfolio Director at Nadara, noted that the study will allow for the evaluation of the most efficient transmission alternatives and generate a more robust technical basis for future investment and contracting decisions for the project.

The project continues its regulatory process

The application for authorization for the Bellrock Wind Farm Development Area was submitted in April 2026 and is currently under evaluation by the competent authorities. Concurrently, work related to engineering design, technical studies, site selection, and stakeholder engagement is progressing.

Once the necessary authorizations are obtained, the project will proceed with the stages of permits for transmission infrastructure, procurement preparation, and final investment decision. The studies developed by Entr and Unitech Power Systems will serve as a basis for refining the definitive electrical design and supporting the future execution of the Bellrock offshore wind farm.
