The company AMETEK Process Instruments has introduced an update for its 993X Series gas analyzers. This equipment line, which includes the 993X and 9933 models, now features explosion-proof enclosures certified under international ATEX and IECEx standards for Zone 1 locations.
Gas analyzers and their certification for environments
Consequently, the new structural design facilitates monitoring at remote facilities where the inert gas supply for purging is unavailable or economically unfeasible. This technical modification mitigates the usual logistical challenges at sites with severe infrastructure limitations.
Regarding the technical specifications, the protections developed have IP66 and NEMA 4X ingress protection ratings. This environmental resistance ensures continuous outdoor operation under extreme temperature variations without compromising the internal sensors.
Indeed, eliminating the continuous purge system directly reduces installation complexity and the expenses associated with operational maintenance. The company’s engineers note that the product represents a robust alternative that maintains measurement accuracy compared with traditional systems.
With respect to analytical operation, the devices use ultraviolet spectroscopy technology to continuously record sulfur compounds. Monitoring covers critical components such as hydrogen sulfide, carbonyl sulfide, and methyl mercaptan in natural gas or biomethane streams.
Likewise, the tools operate efficiently in treatment and sulfur removal processes by detecting sulfur dioxide and carbon disulfide. In addition, the modular design allows additional technologies to be incorporated to measure hydrogen and carbon dioxide according to the operator’s requirements.
Finally, the versatility of these instruments provides greater flexibility for technicians responsible for designing analyzer shelters at oil, refining, and renewable gas plants.
