The Trillo nuclear power plant has begun its 37th refueling operation, a vital process that will take place over 33 days. This maintenance involves the addition of more than 1,000 specialized workers to renew fuel assemblies and complete 14,500 work orders.

Among the most important activities are the inspection of the cooling pumps and the overhaul of the reactor vessel . Sixteen design modifications have also been introduced to improve the facility’s reliability and safety.
Despite these operational achievements, the Trillo nuclear power plant faces economic pressure and rising costs due to high taxes, which represent more than 45% of its operating costs, posing a significant challenge to the plant’s budget.
The nuclear power plant remains critical to energy production in Spain, contributing 3% of annual electricity demand and preventing the emission of more than 2.5 million tons of CO₂. Annual investments of more than €40 million in modernization and upgrades ensure that Trillo will continue to operate at the forefront of the nuclear industry well beyond 2035.
