International shipping company OOCL presents its first 16,828 TEU NeoPanamax vessel. The OOCL Bauhinia, christened at a ceremony at the DACKS shipyard, marks the start of a new series of ten high-capacity vessels designed to meet the most stringent standards of energy efficiency and green technologies.

OOCL Bauhinia connects Asia and the US with sustainability

The OOCL Bauhinia, with a length of 366.99 metres and a draft of 14.5 metres, is among the most advanced vessels in terms of carbon emission reduction and energy savings . Throughout its service, the OOCL Bauhinia will sail on the Trans-Pacific Trade PCC1 service, connecting Asia to the West Coast of the United States in an efficient 42-day rotation.

The ship’s name, which refers to the Bauhinia flower, has special significance for the company as it symbolises its deep connection with Hong Kong , a strategically important port in the global container shipping industry.

With the OOCL Bauhinia we have taken a major step towards improving the efficiency of maritime transport. This modern fleet is deployed with smart technologies that improve safety, comfort and environmental performance, allowing us to meet the most demanding regulatory requirements.

Commented Peter Pan, Director and Executive Committee Member of OOCL.

With its ability to operate in the new Panama Canal locks, this vessel is an example of how advanced technology and NeoPanamax design are redefining the shipping industry, taking global logistics to new frontiers.
