MODEC, a global player in providing solutions for the offshore industry, has taken a significant step in its partnership with Shell Brasil by signing a 20-year contract for the maintenance and operations of the Gato do Mato FPSO. This agreement follows Shell’s approval for final investment in the project , which is located in the Santos pre-salt basin, a key area for deepwater oil production.
About the FPSO Gato do Mato
The Gato do Mato project is one of the most promising in the region, with a planned production capacity of 120,000 barrels of oil per day , making this FPSO a key player in hydrocarbon exploitation in Brazil. This FPSO, which will be anchored at a depth of 2,000 meters, connects to the SOFEC extended mooring system, ensuring stability and operational efficiency in the challenging Atlantic Ocean environment.
With a designed lifespan of 25 years, the Gato do Mato FPSO will be the nineteenth developed by MODEC for Brazil and the second delivered directly to Shell for operation in the country. The platform will be equipped with a next-generation hull, specifically designed to meet the project’s demands and ensure safe and efficient operation for decades. The facility will be equipped to handle not only crude oil, but also the gas and water associated with production.
MODEC’s experience and leadership in FPSO projects
Over the years, MODEC has solidified its reputation as a leader in the design, construction, and operation of FPSOs , particularly in Brazil, where it has been instrumental in numerous offshore developments. MODEC’s ability to integrate advanced technology into its floating production platforms has been instrumental in securing long-term contracts, such as the one signed with Shell.
The Gato do Mato project stands out for its production capacity and its relevance within Brazil’s energy strategy. With the country focusing on strengthening its deepwater oil and gas production infrastructure, MODEC’s commitment to Shell reflects the growth potential of the Brazilian offshore industry.
