Equinor made an oil and gas discovery near the Troll field in the North Sea. The discovery, named Røver Sør, according to preliminary estimates, ranges between 17 and 47 million barrels of recoverable oil equivalent, of which the majority is oil.
Equinor is the operator of the production license with a 40% interest, the other partners are: DNO Norge (20%), Wellesley Petroleum (20%) and Petoro (20%).
Geir Sørtveit, Equinor’s Senior Vice President of Western Exploration and Production Operations, said: “Discoveries close to existing infrastructure are important to sustaining oil and gas production from the Norwegian continental shelf. They need smaller volumes to be profitable and can get up and running quickly with low carbon emissions. As this discovery is close to the Troll field and other discoveries we have made in the area, we can already say that it will be commercial”.
The Transocean Spitsbergen rig will drill the exploration well in the North Sea.
