The partnership between ARO Drilling and International Maritime Industries (IMI) has taken a historic step in Saudi Arabia’s offshore sector with the start of construction of the KINGDOM 3 jack-up drilling rig , the first of its kind manufactured in Saudi Arabia.
This agreement between ARO Drilling, a joint venture of Saudi Aramco and Valaris Companies; and IMI, the largest shipyard in the MENA region, has been signed at the iktva forum and exhibition at Expo Dhahran and represents a crucial step forward in efforts to strengthen Saudi Arabia’s offshore drilling capabilities and support the Kingdom’s Vision 2030.
The KINGDOM 3 drilling rig will feature advanced technology
The construction of KINGDOM 3 will be highlighted by the use of advanced technologies. IMI, which will have the capacity to build up to six drilling platforms per year , is well positioned to transform Saudi Arabia’s maritime industry and foster growth within the offshore sector.
With a global reach and a focus on sustainability, this collaboration seeks to strengthen Saudi Arabia’s international competitiveness and contribute to the Kingdom’s economic development. According to Wail Al-Jaafari, Chairman of the Board of Directors of IMI, the start of construction of KINGDOM 3 is a testament to local capabilities and strategic vision to transform the Saudi maritime sector.
