With Avangrid, Inc.’s recent announcement, the company has successfully begun installation of “Golden Row,” the first solar panels on Powell Creek in Putnam County, Ohio, marking significant progress. This initial row of solar panels sets the model for further development of the project. Since the placement of the Golden Row, Avangrid has been actively pursuing the installation, reaching a total of more than 1,000 panels to date.

Powell Creek Solar Panels: Community Development in Ohio

In addition, the Powell Creek project is being developed on land leased from local landowners and, upon completion, will have approximately 300,000 solar panels. These will have the capacity to generate enough energy to support at least 30,000 homes annually.

The construction of the project is not only expected to generate up to 400 jobs, mostly for local residents, but will also significantly benefit the community through property taxes and payments to property owners. Important is the impact on Miller City, which has annexed the project area to benefit from additional revenues that will fund essential infrastructure such as a new sewer line.

Transformational impact on Miller City

According to Miller City Mayor Jim Erford, the Powell Creek Powell Creek project is a catalyst for economic growth and expansion in the city, which has not seen significant development in years. The expectation is that the city’s tax base will increase tenfold, allowing for new residential and commercial developments that will attract more families and businesses.

Avangrid, which has already established its presence in Ohio with the Blue Creek wind farm in 2012, reaffirms its commitment to sustainability and energy transition through projects such as Powell Creek. The company, part of the Iberdrola Group, has stood out not only in the field of renewable energies but also in responsible corporate practices, being consecutively recognized as one of the most ethical companies committed to sustainable development objectives.
