As part of the government’s policy to promote sustainable maritime transport in the HKSAR, Wah Kwong NatPower and Aberdeen Restaurant Enterprises signed a Memorandum of Understanding. Through this agreement, both companies will evaluate the creation of an integrated electrification ecosystem in the coastal areas of Aberdeen and Shum Wan.
The Alliance Between Wah Kwong NatPower and AREL for Sustainable Mobility in the Port
The alliance will include the installation of onshore power supplies, charging points for ships, and battery energy storage systems. Additionally, the entities will plan the manufacturing of electric vessels for passenger transport and the regional tourism sector.
Concurrently, the organizations will explore the deployment of the ApliAber electric vessel fleet to establish a new standard in maritime mobility and hospitality. This infrastructure would optimize connectivity in the port and reduce emissions from recreational activities.
Similarly, the project includes providing technical support for the revitalization of the Jumbo Kingdom complex through clean mobility alternatives. This technological integration will preserve the area’s maritime heritage while consolidating the ecological transition.
In this context, Vincent Ni, General Manager of Wah Kwong NatPower, stated that the signing of the agreement represents a significant step to support the decarbonization of transport in Hong Kong. The executive highlighted that the implementation of onshore charging infrastructure will foster the development of a cleaner and smarter port environment.
Likewise, Wong Tai Yu, Director of Aberdeen Restaurant Enterprises, noted that the collaboration will facilitate the incorporation of sustainable energy sources in the maritime sector. The executive confirmed that this joint effort seeks to revitalize the port’s historic spaces and ensure a positive impact for future generations.
